Modern Sailing and Encinal Yacht Club Reciprocal Program

Modern Sailing School and Club is excited to announce a new reciprocal program with Encinal Yacht Club (EYC), a landmark of the East Bay sailing community nestled in Alameda’s historic Gold Coast since 1890. As the third oldest yacht club on the San Francisco Bay, EYC carries a rich maritime legacy that perfectly aligns with our mission. This collaboration opens up fantastic reciprocal benefits, offering a bridge for members of both communities to expand their skills, enjoy reciprocal club access, and share their passion for life on the water.

For Modern Sailing Members:

  • Members looking to visit EYC: The Encinal Yacht Club welcomes Modern Sailing members, arriving aboard a chartered vessel from the MSC fleet and presenting their designated guest access pass with advanced reservations. Enjoy access to EYC’s guest dock for day use. Experience lunch or dinner at the clubhouse, or lounge après sail, enjoying the views after a day on the water. Please note: access to the club pool is for EYC members only.
  • Advanced Reservations Required: Please contact the Port Captain for docking arrangements and the club manager for dining reservations and arrangements one week in advance. Overnight guest dock use for one night may be available, space permitting, and requiring a booking at least a week in advance.

For Encinal Yacht Club Members:

Take advantage of our new collaboration with Modern Sailing’s exceptional programs and sail our fleet. In collaboration with Modern, EYC will offer some ASA courses directly from the EYC docks. Stay tuned for announcements from EYC, or reach out to your club if you have specific requests to get your International Proficiency Course (IPC), ASA certifications, or want to create a custom course. We will be offering courses directly from EYC docks and giving you an incentive to join a course or clinic at Modern Sailing School at any of our three locations. View our schedule online and let our team know you're a member of EYC when you enroll. Want to charter our boats? Join as a member at 50% off and talk with our team on getting your charter priveleges unlocked.

  • EYC members will receive a 50% discount off MSC Membership initiation fee
  • EYC members will receive a 10% discount off non-member rates for all Modern Sailing School ASA courses and in-house clinics at MSC Sausalito - Marina Plaza Harbor, MSC Sausalito - Clipper Yacht Harbor and MSC Berkeley - Berkeley Marina

Here are some snaps of Our Saturday, August 20, 2022 Modern Sailing Expedition with Captain Robert Bivin, who was outstanding. Please convey photos and thanks to him. He is an outstanding individual, leader and sailing instructor. His knowledge and experience made us all feel safe and our Farallones Day Trip educational and just amazing.

The Full Moon Sail with Skipper Bob Gutsgell was Ah-Mayzing!! The group dynamic was lovely and the views spectacular. I can't say enough good things about the experience. Thanks so much for the wonderful Club Sails, they are really great.

I would definitely recommend Modern Sailing to anyone who is interested in learning to sail the right way.

Every aspect of Modern Sailing - training, syllabus, course materials, quality of the boats, quality of the instructors, and the very friendly and helpful staff - exceeded my expectations. Modern Sailing has a first class sailing program in an environment with challenging winds and currents. I look forward to coming back to charter a boat and certainly plan to continue my sailing training.

Thumbs up to (Club Skipper) Geoff (Love) and his wife Laura. I went on my first Club Sail on Sunday, January 18, 2026. They were terrific!
