Sausalito, CA - Launching July 10, 2025 - Modern Sailing is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Dinghy & Outboard Rental Program, designed to elevate your charter experience! Effective immediately, in Sausalito, you'll have a quick and convenient way to get to and from mooring balls, explore hidden coves, or simply enjoy short-range harbor use. We're excited to offer high-quality inflatable dinghies with flexible rental options, with plans to expand this exciting offering to Berkeley soon.

- Flexible Rental Options: Choose from a dinghy-only rental (with oars) or the added power of a pre-fueled outboard motor.
- Ideal for Exploration: Perfect for mooring field access, convenient shuttle runs to shore, or short-range harbor use.
- Seamless Integration: Available as "Add-Ons" to your Modern Sailing bareboat charter bookings on specific eligible vessels.
What's Included:
Our dinghy and outboard program offers different configurations to suit your charter needs:
1. Charter Vessels with Dinghy on Davits (Standard with Select Vessels):
For our charter clients aboard Ho'Okele (Seawind 1160) and Folie à Deux, an inflated dinghy is included as a standard feature, conveniently stored on the vessel's davits. Your charter includes:
- Inflated dinghy
- Dinghy oars
- Air pump
- Water pump or bailing bucket
This dinghy is included with the price of your charter on these specific boats, no additional rental fee.
2. Outboard Motor "Add-On" (for Vessels with Standard Dinghy on Davits):
Enhance the experience of chartering Ho'Okele as a vessel with its own dinghy by adding a powerful outboard motor! (Coming soon: Berkeley outboards - this will apply to Berkeley's Lagoon 40' catamaran, Folie à Deux in the very near future.)
- Pre-fueled outboard motor, securely mounted on the vessel's pulpit mounting board upon your arrival.
- Outboard lock for security
- Outboard safety mat
- Outboard safety line
3. Dinghy-Only "Add-On" Rental (Hoistable):
For our other eligible charter vessels that do not include a standard dinghy, you can add a "hoistable" inflatable dinghy to your booking. *See eligible vessel list below.
- Dinghy oars
- Air pump
- Water pump or bailing bucket
- Lifting harness for easy deployment and retrieval
- Dinghy tie-down line (can also be used as an outboard safety line)
4. Dinghy & Outboard "Add-On" Rental:
Get the complete package! Add both a hoistable inflatable dinghy and an outboard motor to your charter on specific vessels.
The Inflatable dinghy comes with:
- Dinghy oars
- Air pump
- Water pump or bailing bucket
- Lifting harness
- Dinghy tie-down line (can also be used as the outboard safety line)
A pre-fueled outboard motor, securely mounted on the vessel's pulpit mounting board comes with:
- Outboard lock
- Outboard safety mat
- Outboard safety line
Duration & Pricing:
Dinghy and outboard add-ons can be booked for Modern Sailing's standard Bareboat charter slots: Full Day charters and Sunset bookings. Our program operates year-round for your convenience.

How to Be Eligible to Rent a Dinghy or Outboard:
Modern Sailing is committed to your safety and enjoyment on the water. Eligibility for our Dinghy & Outboard Rental Program depends on the type of rental:
- Dinghy with Oars (Standard on Ho'Okele & Folie à Deux or Dinghy-Only "Add-On"): As a Modern Sailing Charter Member, you can immediately rent and use a dinghy with oars on a vessel that has the dinghy on davits without an ASA 116 certification.
- Hoistable Dinghy "Add-On" or Outboard Motor "Add-On": To add a hoistable dinghy to your charter, or to add an outboard motor (whether to a hoistable dinghy or a dinghy already on davits), you must meet one of the following requirements:
- Completion of ASA 116, Dinghy & Outboard Endorsement - OR -
- Platinum or Catamaran Fleet Rating, with resume approval and a dockside dinghy briefing (schedule for the morning of your first charter with a dinghy)
These prerequisites ensure that charterers have the necessary training and experience for safe operation of dinghies and outboards under varying conditions.
