The course covers all aspects of dinghy use, from launching and boarding to securing your dinghy at a busy dock or yacht. You'll practice key techniques such as safe docking, emergency engine troubleshooting, and deploying anchors. Additionally, the endorsement includes crucial care and maintenance skills, enabling you to keep your dinghy and outboard in excellent condition. This course will build your confidence and competence in all areas of dinghy operation, preparing you for any on-water scenario.

The Going Ashore Made Easy - the Essential Dinghy & Outboard Manual by Lisa and Andy Batchelor textbook is included with your purchase of this course and will be mailed to you. If you wish to pick up your textbook in person or if you sign up less than a week from your course, please contact our office. Optionally, you may purchase the Going Ashore Made Easy book directly from ASA. Advance study of your textbook will help you prepare for the multiple-choice examination to receive your ASA 116, Dinghy & Outboard Endorsement certification.

  • Ray Arceneaux

The vessel was clean and in fine condition - very nice boat for training, well-equipped.

  • Steve Hood, Basic Coastal Cruising

I would definitely recommend Modern Sailing to anyone who is interested in learning to sail the right way.

  • Mike, Santa Rosa, California

All of the courses and my instructors (JT and Stan) were extremely professional and full of knowledge and experience. I found I was able to learn from their experiences beyond the scope of the courses, and look forward to future opportunities to do so. I would highly recommend Modern Sailing to anyone.

  • Emma & George Stubbs, Sausalito

We just took our ASA 106 at a school in Rhode Island as we prepare for 6 months of cruising in the Caribbean. The class was great, but more than anything it made us really appreciate the quality of teaching and rigor at Modern Sailing. Even though we were the newest to sailing, the group seemed to think that we had the best fundamentals. We felt very well prepared and we see why Modern Sailing has the reputation it does.

I've taken two classes at MSS&C and was very happy with the program. This is also a great club with lots of opportunities for camaraderie and practice on the water. The boats in the fleet are fantastic and kept in tip-top shape. I highly recommend for all sailors and would-be sailors!
