Sail Belize & the Western Caribbean 2027

May 01 - 11, 2027

Explore Placencia’s Mangrove Hideaways and the Barrier Reef Cayes of the Western Caribbean

Prepare to embark on an incredible journey into the heart of Belize’s most captivating maritime landscapes. We are thrilled to unveil our Spring 2027 Global Destinations flotilla: a landmark voyage marking Modern Sailing’s very first expedition to the pristine waters of Belize. Set for May 1 to 11, 2027, this historic trip offers an intimate, professionally guided encounter with the sublime beauty of the Belize Barrier Reef.

This eleven-day voyage offers a seamless blend of tropical exploration and structured, professional fleet support. Alongside our experienced captains and instructors, you will navigate legendary turquoise channels, isolated cayes, and shallow coral passages. Every morning presents a practical navigation opportunity to hone your skills, and every night invites a chance to unwind and connect with a community of like-minded adventurers.

The Voyage Ahead
Our adventure begins and ends at the premier Laru Beya base in Placencia, your gateway to the barrier reef. Our chosen dates place your expedition squarely within the region's premium cruising window at the tail end of the dry season, offering ideal conditions for tropical sailing. Expect consistent easterly trade winds, remarkable underwater visibility, and comfortable temperatures ranging from a pleasant overnight low of 25°C (77°F) to a balmy daytime high of 31°C (88°F).

These optimal conditions are perfect for a wide array of activities, from world-class scuba diving at the legendary Great Blue Hole to premier snorkeling along the reef.

A Rich Cultural and Gastronomic Tapestry

Belize is a vibrant mosaic where Central American and Caribbean cultures seamlessly intertwine. While English is the official language, the warm hospitality of the locals is accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of Kriol, Spanish, and Garifuna dialects.

Your culinary journey will be just as memorable as the sailing itself. The region is renowned for its fresh, vibrant flavors, and you'll have ample opportunity to sample authentic local dishes. From casual beachfront shacks on remote cayes to refined resort dining, prepare to enjoy fresh seafood preparations like grilled lobster, red snapper, and local Belizean ceviche, all expertly prepared with fragrant local spices, citrus, and coconut.

Your mornings begin with the gentle sounds of nature, looking out at a panoramic view of sun-kissed, palm-fringed cayes. Your days will unfold with invigorating passages, hands-on navigation practice, and tranquil afternoon shore excursions. Evenings transition effortlessly between the lively, laid-back shorefront nightlife of San Pedro and quiet moments anchored beneath a blanket of stars, sharing tales of the day's discoveries with fellow travelers.

Whether you are looking to refine your blue-water skills or simply soak in the tropical splendor, this milestone flotilla offers a tailored experience for every level of adventurer.

Why sail the Belizean Cayes with a Modern Sailing flotilla?

Our Global Destinations trips couple the thrill of exploration with complete peace of mind. Our professional captains and mentor instructors possess a wealth of destination experience, ensuring your voyage is seamless from your first step aboard to your final cleat hitch.

Book a private, premium cabin aboard one of our captained club catamarans, or take the helm yourself. Qualified skippers can join the fleet as captain of a Modern Sailing-selected bareboat, bringing family or friends along with the comfort of knowing fleet support is always nearby. Even if you have extensive cruising experience of your own, you will love the group dynamics, shared knowledge, and vibrant social flavor of sailing in a flotilla.

This inaugural Belize flotilla offers premium cabins aboard our captained catamarans, alongside a handpicked selection of bareboat catamarans and monohulls.

I took ASA 101 with them recently. They have the best customer service I've ever seen! I mistyped my address when I signed up online so didn't receive the textbook. I called and the lady immediately sent me another copy! Everyone at the club is super friendly.

Here are some snaps of Our Saturday, August 20, 2022 Modern Sailing Expedition with Captain Robert Bivin, who was outstanding. Please convey photos and thanks to him. He is an outstanding individual, leader and sailing instructor. His knowledge and experience made us all feel safe and our Farallones Day Trip educational and just amazing.

  • John Boynton

The class was terrific. I know you must get many compliments about your sailing instructors...But I must tell you that Robert is outstanding. Having taught SCUBA, I really appreciate the way he is so sensitive to all on board, dealing with each so well, knowing quickly their strengths and weaknesses making each feel special and cared for.

  • Danny Collins

The office staff was very accommodating in meeting my availability.

  • John Kipping

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.
