COO Bill Moreland has Taken a Shine to J/105 Sailing - and so will you!

Modern Sailing/Inspire Sailing Chief Operations Officer Bill Moreland is a 100 Ton Master Captain whose 40-plus years of sailing experience is mainly with a robust variety of cruising boats in the 30 to 60-foot range. During a recent Team Sail at Inspire Sailing Berkeley, Bill had his first taste of sailing the J/105 and was immediately smitten with the model. He was elated with her eager swiftness in light winds, graceful responsiveness, stability, and ease of balance.

"The J/105 is an absolute joy to sail!" he says enthusiastically. Now Bill wishes he could have a J/105 at both the Modern and Inspire Sailing locations. (Sorry, Bill! That wish won't come true!)

J105s are thought of as the big sister of the J/24 and the ideal San Francisco Bay day sailor. With similar rigging and all the fun, fast, and responsive performance of the J/24, and the added amenities of a comfortable salon, marine head, galley, and roomy cockpit, the J/105 appeals to sport sailors and cruisers alike. She is the perfect choice for sailors who enjoy speed and performance while entertaining larger crews on longer excursions around the Bay. The model also sails beautifully in both light airs and heavy winds for enjoyable sailing on the Bay year-round.

Dual Site and Inspire Sailing members who have completed ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising and an Evaluation Sail or US Sailing Bareboat Cruising (at Inspire) or are qualified to charter the J/105s Nirvana and Resolute. Inspire Sailing's Racing Clinic is also helpful but not required.

Don’t just take Bill’s word for it - experience it for yourself. After a day of sailing the J/105, you’ll be walking on air!

The vessel was clean and in fine condition - very nice boat for training, well-equipped.

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.

It has been wonderful sailing with MSC over the years. Please extend my thanks to the owners, management, and staff for unrequited professionalism and high standards in a charter fleet. I have sailed with several in my years and none nearly hold a candle to the quality of business and staff at Modern Sailing.
