ASA 111 Sailing Review
The ASA 111 Sailing Review is an individualized, goal-oriented session designed to refresh your skills, boost your confidence, and update your official American Sailing Association record. ASA certificates do not expire, but skills, judgment, and confidence do. If it has been a while since you've actively sailed and you would like to enroll in your next ASA course, the ASA 111 session is the perfect way to verify your current competence and meet your prerequisite recency needs.
This 4-hour, on-the-water session allows you to work one-on-one with an instructor to review specific maneuvers, docking, or safety procedures tailored entirely to your training track (Sportboat vs Cruising). The goal is verification of your current competence, not re-certification.
The ASA 111 is for you if:
- You have successfully completed the ASA course in the past, and would like to refresh your skills to the course standard.
- It has been a while since you've actively sailed and you would like to enroll in the next ASA course. ASA 111 can be used to meet the recency requirements for the course prerequisite.
What We Consider "Active Sailing"/Modern Sailing's Recency Requirement:
- On-the-water sailing on keelboats as the skipper or crew member
- Instructional sailing at a sailing school
- Documented private or club sailing (in your logbook or by submitting a Sailing Resume)
Note: Visit the ASA course page for more information on the skills required for competency, or the terms of recency for the prerequisite. You can easily find any specific course page by typing the course name or number into the "search text" bar at the top of this page. Additionally, ASA 111 session will count as one day towards your 6 on-the-water days for ASA 104 prerequisite.
