Yosh Han

Instructor

Yosh is a USCG 25T Captain, former PADI MSDT scuba Instructor, avid wild swimmer, and blue-water sailor with thousands of miles of offshore experience. Yosh competed in the prestigious TransPac race from Los Angeles to Hawaii on s/v Good Trouble, Andrews 56 with Offshore Racing Outreach, a team of majority minorities, the first of its kind in the race’s 100+ year history. Read about the team in Latitude 38. Her extensive log includes a 2,700NM double-handed passage to Hawaii, deliveries through the Caribbean and South Pacific, and three Baja Ha-Ha rallies. Whether racing Express 37s in San Francisco or wild swimming under the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosh is a lifelong waterwoman dedicated to exploring the world’s oceans above and below the surface.

From outrunning cyclones in the South Pacific to earning a Latitude 38 cover shot in the Sea of Cortez, her maritime career spans the globe. If Yosh spends too much time on land, she feels like a fish out of water. Her big dream is to circumnavigate the world by boat and dive in remote bays. Her infectious passion for sailing is imprinted on her students where you can find her teaching ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing and ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising many weekends of the year. Every aspect of Modern Sailing - training, syllabus, course materials, quality of the boats, quality of the instructors, and the very friendly and helpful staff - exceeded my expectations. Modern Sailing has a first class sailing program in an environment with challenging winds and currents. I look forward to coming back to charter a boat and certainly plan to continue my sailing training.

All of the courses and my instructors (JT and Stan) were extremely professional and full of knowledge and experience. I found I was able to learn from their experiences beyond the scope of the courses, and look forward to future opportunities to do so. I would highly recommend Modern Sailing to anyone.

I try to get out on the water every week: out the Gate, around Angel, up Raccoon - I love it all. After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. Also, Captain Bill Moreland has been very generous in giving informal advice whenever I’ve asked him. Thanks to Bill, I no longer have any anxiety about docking!

The office staff was very accommodating in meeting my availability.

Here are some snaps of Our Saturday, August 20, 2022 Modern Sailing Expedition with Captain Robert Bivin, who was outstanding. Please convey photos and thanks to him. He is an outstanding individual, leader and sailing instructor. His knowledge and experience made us all feel safe and our Farallones Day Trip educational and just amazing.
