Folie à Deux

Catamaran
Lagoon 40

Folie à Deux is an impressive Lagoon 40 catamaran featuring panoramic views from the salon and large windows in the cabins, adding comfort and luxury to your San Francisco Bay charter experience. With a spacious galley and salon, three cabins, generous storage, and excellent headroom throughout, the accommodation is the roomiest of all catamarans in her class. She also boasts a large, open, and dry cockpit with 360 degree views, ideal for comfortable entertaining on the water.

This Lagoon 40's running rigging is configured efficiently, making this boat a pleasure to sail. The self-tacking jib makes her an easy boat to sail with short-handed crews. She is surprisingly good upwind and fun to sail off the wind too. On deck, there are plenty of handrails to grab onto and most of the hatches are recessed. Her comfort rating for day sails is 12 people and she sleeps up to 8.

Fun fact: folie à deux is a French expression that means "folly of two" or "madness shared by two."

Every aspect of Modern Sailing - training, syllabus, course materials, quality of the boats, quality of the instructors, and the very friendly and helpful staff - exceeded my expectations. Modern Sailing has a first class sailing program in an environment with challenging winds and currents. I look forward to coming back to charter a boat and certainly plan to continue my sailing training.

I try to get out on the water every week: out the Gate, around Angel, up Raccoon - I love it all. After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. Also, Captain Bill Moreland has been very generous in giving informal advice whenever I’ve asked him. Thanks to Bill, I no longer have any anxiety about docking!

Captain Jeff Cathers is really cool. I had such a great time on the Farallones Day Trip. It was actually my very best day of 2020. Thank you so much for coordinating the trip.

Thumbs up to (Club Skipper) Geoff (Love) and his wife Laura. I went on my first Club Sail on Sunday, January 18, 2026. They were terrific!

I took ASA 101 with them recently. They have the best customer service I've ever seen! I mistyped my address when I signed up online so didn't receive the textbook. I called and the lady immediately sent me another copy! Everyone at the club is super friendly.
