ASA 190 - 203 Instructor Preparation Clinic

Need your ASA 103 certificate to join the ASA 203 IQC?

Instructor Candidates can prepare for the ASA 203, Basic Coastal Cruising Instructor Qualfiication Clinic and fulfill the student-level ASA 103 certification prerequisite by attending this preparation clinic. ASA 103 certification requires passing a written examination and an on-the-water skills evaluation by an Instructor Evaluator. If the Instructor Candidate is successful, the Instructor Evaluator signs the candidate's log book and ASA issues the certification sticker by mail.

NOTE: Even though you can earn your ASA Instructor Certificate without holding a US Merchant Marine Credential (captain's license), you will not be eligible to work as an instructor on US federal waters without credentials/licensure.

After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. I love sailing in the San Francisco Bay and greatly appreciate everything that MSC has to offer, the classes, clinics, club sails, racing and charters. I enjoy our supportive sailing community and use every opportunity to spend time on the water. After obtaining the certifications from MSC I did my first charter in Croatia in 2022 with my family.
