Why sail the Society Islands of Tahiti with a Modern Sailing flotilla?

The Society Islands of French Polynesia are made up of spectacular islands that form an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean that is in same time zone as Hawaii. It’s just a 9-hour journey out of San Francisco for you to discover and experience some of the most beautiful islands on earth.

Each island offers a unique flavor. Snorkel vibrant coral gardens teeming with marine life, kayak up the only navigable river in French Polynesia (on Raiatea), wander through fragrant vanilla plantations on Taha’a, or hike to ancient marae (temples) on the sacred island of Raiatea. Instead of being confined to a single resort, your modern catamaran provides a front-row seat to a continually changing paradise. Wake up to a new, breathtaking vista every day, from towering volcanic peaks to secluded motus (small islets) fringed with white sand.

Joining a Modern Sailing Flotilla offers the security and fun of a group, led by our professional captains. Whether you reserve a cabin and crew a captained yacht or skipper a bareboat, this adventure is an unparalleled opportunity to build international cruising experience in one of the world’s most sought-after destinations. Experience the sheer joy of helming or cruising aboard a state-of-the-art catamaran, complete with generator-powered air conditioning, an onboard water maker, and expansive outdoor living spaces. These vessels are designed for maximum comfort and an unforgettable sailing performance.

This flotilla offers only 8 cabins aboard 2 captained catamarans. Four bareboats will also be available.

Here are some snaps of Our Saturday, August 20, 2022 Modern Sailing Expedition with Captain Robert Bivin, who was outstanding. Please convey photos and thanks to him. He is an outstanding individual, leader and sailing instructor. His knowledge and experience made us all feel safe and our Farallones Day Trip educational and just amazing.

I try to get out on the water every week: out the Gate, around Angel, up Raccoon - I love it all. After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. Also, Captain Bill Moreland has been very generous in giving informal advice whenever I’ve asked him. Thanks to Bill, I no longer have any anxiety about docking!

The Full Moon Sail with Skipper Bob Gutsgell was Ah-Mayzing!! The group dynamic was lovely and the views spectacular. I can't say enough good things about the experience. Thanks so much for the wonderful Club Sails, they are really great.

  • Ray Arceneaux

The vessel was clean and in fine condition - very nice boat for training, well-equipped.

  • Andrew Goble, San Francisco

It has been wonderful sailing with MSC over the years. Please extend my thanks to the owners, management, and staff for unrequited professionalism and high standards in a charter fleet. I have sailed with several in my years and none nearly hold a candle to the quality of business and staff at Modern Sailing.
