Modern Sailing is open year-round, seven days per week - with a few special exceptions. To allow our hard-working staff to rest and enjoy celebrating the holiday season, our office and fleet operations are closed on the dates listed below.

CLOSED Thanksgiving Day and day after - Thursday, November 28 through Friday, November 29

OPEN Saturday, November 30 through Sunday, December 22

CLOSED Monday, December 23 through Wednesday, January 1, 2025

OPEN Thursday, January 2 through Wednesday, November 26

Regular office hours are 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM daily.

I try to get out on the water every week: out the Gate, around Angel, up Raccoon - I love it all. After 18 years as a member of OCSC in Berkeley, I learned to sail the bigger boats at Modern by taking ASA 103 and 104. My ASA 104 instructor Dave Russell was terrific. Also, Captain Bill Moreland has been very generous in giving informal advice whenever I’ve asked him. Thanks to Bill, I no longer have any anxiety about docking!

The class was terrific. I know you must get many compliments about your sailing instructors...But I must tell you that Robert is outstanding. We just took our ASA 106 at a school in Rhode Island as we prepare for 6 months of cruising in the Caribbean. The class was great, but more than anything it made us really appreciate the quality of teaching and rigor at Modern Sailing. Even though we were the newest to sailing, the group seemed to think that we had the best fundamentals. We felt very well prepared and we see why Modern Sailing has the reputation it does.

I love sailing in the San Francisco Bay and greatly appreciate everything that MSC has to offer, the classes, clinics, club sails, racing and charters. I enjoy our supportive sailing community and use every opportunity to spend time on the water. After obtaining the certifications from MSC I did my first charter in Croatia in 2022 with my family. It was amazing and we’re looking forward to returning soon!
