Are you ready to become an ASA 105, Coastal Navigation instructor?
1. Are you a current ASA member, or willing to reactivate your membership?
2. Do you hold an ASA 204 Instructor Certificate, or will you enroll in ASA 204 and 205 simultaneously?
If you are able to respond "yes" to both questions above, you're ready to become an ASA 105, Coastal Navigation Instructor!
Apply for the ASA 205 IQC by sending us your completed ASA-107B Instructor Application and Sailing Resume forms. (If you are applying to simultaneously enroll in consecutive ASA 204 and 205 IQCs, please note this on your application. You only need to submit one copy of each form.) Email your completed forms to firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions about the clinic or application process? Email us or call our office at (415) 331-8250.
The ASA 205 IQC is the fourth instructor-level clinic in the keelboat training system and certifies an individual for teaching the ASA 105 Coastal Navigation course at an ASA affiliate school. This clinic is based in the classroom with no on-the-water skills requirements. However, this certification requires candidates to demonstrate broader knowledge by written examination. When the Instructor Candidate is successful, the Instructor Evaluator signs the Candidate's log book and the ASA issues the certification stickers by mail.
NOTE: Even though you can earn your ASA Instructor Certificate without holding a US Merchant Marine Credential (captain's license), you will not be eligible to work as an instructor on US federal waters without credentials/licensure.
