ASA 105/106, California Coastal Combination Course (Coastal Navigation & Advanced Coastal Cruising)

7 days / 6 nights, Mon - Sun

Presenting dynamic conditions to challenge to even experienced sailors, the California Coast delivers the perfect setting to train students at an advanced level. After completion of ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, students are welcome to join this class to further their sailing education and gain ocean sailing experience.

The 7-day course will be taught aboard Coho II, our Spencer 44 bluewater cruiser. Day One of the course will provide instruction on boat systems, weather analysis, and provisioning. Our first night is spent anchored in Richardson Bay, Horseshoe Cove, or Drakes Bay. The next morning, we will head south to Monterey, if conditions allow. Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz offer shelter and additional anchoring/docking practice on our return trip up the coast. Actual itinerary will depend on weather and sea state.

There are three ways to sign up for this course - by phone (415) 331-8250, email, or by clicking the link below.

Testimonials

  • John Clark

Every aspect of Modern Sailing - training, syllabus, course materials, quality of the boats, quality of the instructors, and the very friendly and helpful staff - exceeded my expectations. Modern Sailing has a first class sailing program in an environment with challenging winds and currents. I look forward to coming back to charter a boat and certainly plan to continue my sailing training.

  • John Kratochvil, Oregon

I would like to compliment Stan Lander for his coaching, counseling and teaching Heavy Weather Offshore Sailing. Stan was very accommodating to all of the student's interests and shared his many years of insight on handling the boat in heavy seas. I would certainly recommend Stan and this course to sheltered waters sailors. My confidence in handling a boat of this size was certainly enhanced by the experience.

  • John Kipping

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.
