Programs for Club Nautique Students, Members and Instructors

Sailing under the Golden Gate by Jayson Fennimore

The impressive sailing community on the San Francisco Bay was built by generations of mariners, dedicated professionals, and institutions that keep the love of the sport alive—one sailor at a time. Like many of you, we were surprised and saddened to hear that our neighbor, Club Nautique, closed its doors on December 31, 2025.

At Modern Sailing, we know how much passion, time, and effort goes into building a life on the water. We’ve been encouraged to meet many members of the Club Nautique family over the past few weeks, and it would be an honor to help you continue your journey.

We have designed several Fast-Track Programs to get you back on the water quickly, ensuring your certifications and experience carry forward seamlessly at our Sausalito and Berkeley locations.

Transition Programs for Club Nautique Members

1. Experienced Sailor Fast-Track Package

For skippers ready to sail immediately, this bundle covers all requirements to get you cleared for chartering at both our locations. Learn about the requirements to Charter a Modern Sailing vessel here.

The Package: Includes Membership Initiation, a Club Nautique Group Checkout, and a Site Orientation.

Special Pricing: $470 (A $820 value). Offer valid through June 30, 2026.

Details: The Group Checkout allows 2–3 Club Nautique skippers to demonstrate skills with an Instructor (USCG Captain) to earn their Fleet Rating. This package also includes a Site Orientation for your secondary location (Sausalito or Berkeley), giving you full access to the Bay. View the boats in our fleet here.

2. The ASA Certification Bridge (For Students)

If you were mid-way through your US Sailing path, don't worry—your progress counts. Having integrated US Sailing programs in the past, we’ve developed a streamlined bridge to the American Sailing Association (ASA) curriculum.

The Offer: We are providing a Free ASA Bridge/Credit (regularly $150) when you sign up for an ASA 103 or 104 course before June 30, 2026.

Why it matters: You won't have to "start over." We’ll help you map your US Sailing experience directly into the ASA system so you can keep moving toward your goals.

3. Instructor Cross-Certification

Are you a US Sailing instructor formerly with Club Nautique? We are hiring! We have a specialized program to help you fast-track your credentials to teach the ASA curriculum. We’d love to keep your expertise here in the Bay Area—contact us today to discuss joining our instructional team.

4. Yacht Management & Boat Referral

Place Your Boat in the Modern Sailing Fleet: If you are a boat owner looking for a new home for your vessel, we offer Professional Yacht Management Services. Learn how to place your sailboat in our charter fleet here.

5. "Double Dip" Referral Program

We are waiving our "no stacking" rule for the Club Nautique community.

Existing Modern Sailing Members: Refer a Club Nautique friend and receive a $100 bonus credit.

New Club Nautique Members: Even if you use the Fast-Track discount, you still receive a $50 referral credit when referred by a current member.

  • John Boynton

The class was terrific. I know you must get many compliments about your sailing instructors...But I must tell you that Robert is outstanding. Having taught SCUBA, I really appreciate the way he is so sensitive to all on board, dealing with each so well, knowing quickly their strengths and weaknesses making each feel special and cared for.

  • David Dolenc, Member

I love sailing in the San Francisco Bay and greatly appreciate everything that MSC has to offer, the classes, clinics, club sails, racing and charters. I enjoy our supportive sailing community and use every opportunity to spend time on the water. After obtaining the certifications from MSC I did my first charter in Croatia in 2022 with my family. It was amazing and we’re looking forward to returning soon!

  • John Kipping

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.

  • John Kratochvil, Oregon

I would like to compliment Stan Lander for his coaching, counseling and teaching Heavy Weather Offshore Sailing. Stan was very accommodating to all of the student's interests and shared his many years of insight on handling the boat in heavy seas. I would certainly recommend Stan and this course to sheltered waters sailors. My confidence in handling a boat of this size was certainly enhanced by the experience.

  • Emma & George Stubbs, Sausalito

We just took our ASA 106 at a school in Rhode Island as we prepare for 6 months of cruising in the Caribbean. The class was great, but more than anything it made us really appreciate the quality of teaching and rigor at Modern Sailing. Even though we were the newest to sailing, the group seemed to think that we had the best fundamentals. We felt very well prepared and we see why Modern Sailing has the reputation it does.
