The San Francisco Leukemia Cup Regatta

Join Modern Sailing in the Fight Against Blood Cancers

The Leukemia Cup Regattas, established in 1993, are national charitable sailing and cruising events committed to raising funds to support the mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

The San Francisco Leukemia Cup has raised almost $8M since 2006 and has been the top fundraising regatta in the country for 12 consecutive years,

Modern Sailing has been participating in the Leukemia Cup since 2010. Each year our boat owners, instructors, and members give generously to support this worthwhile cause, and have fun doing it! Why do we focus on the LLS?

Our CEO Leigh Hunt explains:

"Many of us have friends and family that have been touched by Leukemia or other blood cancers. I personally have friends that sail with me today that would not be here if not for the drug treatments that were made possible by the funding driven by the LLS.

"I am proud to be able to support an organization whose aim is to eradicate such horrible diseases, and one that is succeeding. Funds donated by the Modern Sailing community are making an impact on the lives of the survivors and their loved ones. And the beauty of the Leukemia Cup is that we are making an impact while having fun!!

"MSC’s Leukemia Cup Campaign is designed to get as many of our community of sailors on the water as possible. We enter the boats, skippered by Modern Sailing Instructors or other VIP Guest Skippers, and you simply join the team. Please join us and be Pirates for a Cause!"

How can you participate?

Join Pirates for a Cause - Come sailing with us!

Join one of the race boats as crew! Each boat will have a Modern Sailing Coach on board to guide you and lead the team across the finish line – no racing experience necessary.

The registration fee to participate is $150. Modern Sailing donates 100% of this to the LLS.

Testimonials

We just took our ASA 106 at a school in Rhode Island as we prepare for 6 months of cruising in the Caribbean. The class was great, but more than anything it made us really appreciate the quality of teaching and rigor at Modern Sailing. Even though we were the newest to sailing, the group seemed to think that we had the best fundamentals. We felt very well prepared and we see why Modern Sailing has the reputation it does.

I've taken two classes at MSS&C and was very happy with the program. This is also a great club with lots of opportunities for camaraderie and practice on the water. The boats in the fleet are fantastic and kept in tip-top shape. I highly recommend for all sailors and would-be sailors!

Since many, many years, I had the dream to sail underneath the Golden Gate bridge. On October 14th last year, my dream became true. Thanks to our dear friend Aaron Fritz who made it possible and organized this cruise for us. With this adventure I was able to achieve one more milestone on my sailing career.

Finally on the water, it was great! Full moon made the flows even stronger and it was like sailing in a washing machine.

I did my sailing education in the English Channel, where the situation with the wind and flows is comparable to the San Francisco Bay. So I felt pretty much "at home" being on the helm in the Bay.

I hope our skipper Stan Lander enjoyed this day cruise too. We, definitely did! It was an unforgettable experience for all of us.

A very big thank you to all of you who made it possible, that my dream became reality! Also thank you for the MSC flag I got at the end of the day. It found it's place in my study, where I can see it daily.
