Scott Smit | Modern Sailing

Scott Smit

Assistant Fleet Manager

As a boy, Scott enjoyed sailing the San Francisco Bay on his grandfather’s Cal 30. Sailing camp in Belvedere introduced him to dinghy skippering and sailing basics. After returning to California from university in landlocked Colorado, Scott took up sailing and other marine activities.

At Modern Sailing, Scott prioritizes fleet maintenance activities to keep the boats in tip-top shape. He has the need for speed, so he likes to sail in high wind conditions. Giving orders to his crew members and making navigation decisions are his favorite parts of being a skipper. Scott hopes to gain further sailing experience and knowledge at Modern Sailing so that he can charter a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea someday.

Testimonials

  • Danny Collins

The office staff was very accommodating in meeting my availability.

  • Mike, Santa Rosa, California

All of the courses and my instructors (JT and Stan) were extremely professional and full of knowledge and experience. I found I was able to learn from their experiences beyond the scope of the courses, and look forward to future opportunities to do so. I would highly recommend Modern Sailing to anyone.

  • John Kipping

The meeting room was quite adequate and the location most convenient, but the course outline and instruction were outstanding. Modern Sailing is fortunate to have such a well organized instructor in Mr. Stan Lander who teaches very well from a rich professional background. Mr. Lander was generous with his time and patiently in helping students who needed more attention or time in understanding various aspects of the curriculum.
