see the value of investing in “team building” exercises
to promote high morale, good will, team spirit and friendly
competition, all of which carry over in a positive direction

The Modern Sailing Academy offers a unique team building event
designed to obtain these results. The method we choose to build
a strong team is sailboat racing. This is the reason. The skills
and teamwork needed to race a boat parallel those found in ssuccessful
businesses. Both require strong problem solving, communication
and team effort to achieve success. Sailing is a fun; safe and
exhilarating way to for companies to build positive employee
relations that carry over long after the event has ended. And
no prior sailing experience is needed. |
The Team Building Regatta
Upon arriving at our facility, the group assembles for a lecture
style briefing of the day’s events. A facilitator will give
an overview of sailing theory, terminology and a breakdown of duties
performed on a boat. A detailed explanation of the racecourse and
what to expect will be discussed. A supplemental handout highlighting
the lecture will be given to each crew.
The group then breaks downs into groups of six and is assigned a
US Coast Guard licensed captain with years of bay sailing and instruction
experience. After leaving the dock, instructors will work with students
on basic maneuvers. As the starting gun goes off and the race commences,
student will be in command of the vessels under the watchful eye
of the captain. Very quickly they will bond as a team fully appreciating
the importance of everyone’s participation. At the end of the
race the group will reassemble with a round table discussion of
what was learned. Awards and trophies will be presented.
